If you install Windows 7 to the same drive that Vista is currently located on without formatting, the contents will be moved to Windows. Do not format your drive using anything other than the Windows installer. Upgrade disc are generally meant for those who are upgrading from a previous operating system. If you perform a clean install using the upgrade media and try activating Windows, it wont work. There is a way arround. Open the Start Menu again and type cmd to display a shortcut to the Command Line utility. Right-click this shortcut and choose "Run as administrator.

When Windows 7 reboots, run the Activate Windows utility, type in your product key and activate windows.
