Although it took some getting used to in the other games, it's downright aggravating in this version, as aiming in a 3D environment from what is essentially a 2D view of that environment can be a difficult thing to learn. However, all in all it wasn't too much of a pain and as much as I protest, watching the little suckers give up the ghost and explode in a ball of murderous fury is too enjoyable to dislike. Worms 3D has good composition for a franchise transition title, although not of the quality I'd attribute to such instant classics as Ninja Gaiden , Metroid Prime , and The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind-Waker , all of which were superlative examples of how one can keep the gameplay alive and reminiscent of days gone by, but suitably update the game at the same time.
It maintains the gameplay, but doesn't keep an amazing grip on your eyeballs, just a good one. Thankfully, the worms are relatively decent trash talkers, so there's that for enjoyment.
Multiplayer, however, is where it's at. Although I didn't have enough people to test this out, using a multitap and passing gameplay, I've heard it's possible to get up to 16 people on a single game, each controlling a worm.
With those kinds of numbers, and this kind of destruction, Worms 3D can be a good evening's worth of entertainment. Fans of the old series should be happy, and newcomers will be treated to some good gameplay. Browse games Game Portals. Worms 3D. Install Game. You can challenge yourself with tough and drawn out conflicts, or relax in a quick and easy game as you blow away your opponents. Unfortunately, you don't have this level of control or difficulty settings for Campaign mode.
The training missions required to start the campaign can be very difficult and failure on any one requires you to redo all of them. The campaign missions themselves can also be extremely difficult to finish. The difficulty can be frustrating, although you can always resort to the great multiplayer battles if you find yourself stuck. The ability to play against other players and the number of ways in which you can do so is another positive point in Worms Armageddon.
You can take on other players on a single computer, over your local computer network in LAN play, or on the Internet. Beating computers is fun, but there's nothing more satisfying than being able to take on friends in a violent free-for-all.
The controls are simple and easy to learn, despite the lack of any sort of tutorial. You can look around the map by moving the mouse. Worms are moved left or right with the corresponding arrow keys, and jump with the Enter key.
The various weapons are selected with F1-F12, and fired with the Space Bar. When it is your turn, you can choose which worm to use by using the Tab key. While a tutorial of some sort would have been a nice addition, not having one isn't a huge hindrance to playing the game.
There's some strange satisfaction in watching as the worms bounce around from explosions and fires, or explode on death. The sounds in the game also add to the hilarity.
As the worms move around and shoot each other, they'll make various comments on what is happening. For example, if a worm manages to damage a teammate with a weapon, you might hear a remark about him being a traitor. On top of the funny comments, the ability to change accents of worms makes them an even bigger laugh. Despite the simplicity, the visuals and audio are great additions to the game.
Worms Armageddon is an excellent turn-based strategy game that will be great entertainment for the strategy buff and everyone else as well. Do battle with an array of devastating and outlandish weapons like the Holy Hand Grenade. Customize an unbelievable number of options to create a battle that's perfect for you.
Tests your skills against computer opponents or take advantage of the multiplayer offerings and battle against other players. Humorous looks and sounds add the perfect touch to an amazing game. Definitely a game well worth playing. In a normal match, all teams begin with the same weapons, based on the chosen weapon set. Some weapons may not become available until a certain number of turns pass.
Depending on the game options, additional weapons may randomly fall onto the terrain in airdropped and teleported crates. The game includes a wide variety of weapons, including melee, projectile, and explosive weapons, as well as Air Strike-based attacks. Some are based on real-life arms, such as the Bazooka, Grenade, and Shotgun. Others are more fanciful and cartoon-like, such as the Sheep, which serves as a mobile explosive, or the Skunk, which releases poisonous gas.
Depending on game options, additional weapons may randomly fall onto the terrain in airdropped and teleported Crates. In addition to normal weapons, each team during team creation chooses a special weapon which becomes available to them after a certain number of turns. The special weapons are more powerful than regular weapons and often offer special abilities. Empires of the Undergrowth. The most powerful weapons are superweapons.
Superweapons rarely fall in Weapon Crates. Superweapons are often based on cartoon-like themes such as the French Sheep Strike and are usually devastating in power. Local multiplayer allows the player to select which teams participate in the battle including number of Worms and handicaps , which options and weapons are used, and the level to be played upon.
The matches can use any combination of human and computer teams, provided at least one team is human. Additionally, multiple Worm teams can form an alliance for the match by selecting the same team color — they will still operate separately in movement rotation but share weapons and score.
If multiple human players are using the same computer, the game functions in a hot-seat mode. The same random element is also present in the choice of landscape. You can either opt for randomly generated scenarios or pick one you've unlocked from a campaign. You can then give them a theme from lunar, war, England, horror, pirate or arctic and then choose a different time of day three varieties for each.
You can then further edit the number of objects in the landscape and how spaced apart the islands are. And once again, you can even select the type of gravestone you want your squad to leave behind as a mark of respect!
Worms 3D's new engine isn't a necessary improvement on the classic and enduring 2D game, but the upgrade works, even if it makes the controls a little more cumbersome.
It still has the tone, humour and playability that is synonymous with Worms, so fans can take comfort that their slimy pink friends have come out sassier and stronger than ever, ready to kick some slithering butt.
